6 Degrees of Separation

Since I'm having trouble posting more pictures (dang blogger), I'll tell you a story about 6 degrees of separation, also known as the Kevin Bacon slash Azucar Effect. Last month I posted about the Lia Sophia jewelry party I was hosting to help one of my besties, Cathy, with her new-found business. That's when b. came into my life. She commented that she'd like to attend and said, "Are you accepting RSVP's from strangers-who-are-rilli-nice-and-take-care-of-sick-babies-for-a-living-therefore-can't-be-too-scary?" I figured What The Heck and had her email me for directions. b. showed up just after we had gotten started (Cathy is a GREAT Lia Sophia consultant, if anyone's looking for one) and she wasn't scary at all! She's a cute gal, not a serial killer, who showed up in her scrubs from taking care of sick babies for a living :o) Her time spent was better than she expected according to her blog. So now we're watching each others blogs when this comes along. CW had tagged b. to do a Word Association game and she mentioned someone I know. I ask, "How do you know them?" (because, remember dear readers, b. didn't know ANY of us bloggers the way we each at least know SOMEONE in person that blogs) and tells me that she grew up there - lived next door. So we're both freaking out and get on gmail chat instead of conversing through blog comments... (edited for content) Brenda: hello? me: hi Brenda: did you live in that house? me: the one with the wierd window in the hall bathroom? Brenda: the red brick one facing the lake with the window in the hall bathroom me: yes, we did live there for 1.5 yrs the hadley's were our landlords Brenda: ewwww this is weird! me: we rented it sight-unseen when we moved here from Seattle 4 yrs ago it gets WIERDER cathy, the jewelry seller girl... she lived in the basement - that's how I know her Brenda: my mom died in that house me: nu uh!!!! Brenda: uh-huh me: i got pregnant in that house So there are less than 6 degrees from b. to Azucar (b. to Hadley's to me AND Cathy)... she really is the Kevin Bacon of Provo. We need to create some kind of family tree of connections. That'd be cool. P.S. I'm still trying to get 4 more Lia Sophia orders to help Cathy start her business in case anyone wants anything? Buy 2 (least expensive) get the 3rd (most expensive) at 50% off and then you can get up to 3 pair of earrings for 50% off after that! Click here to see a catalog & pricing. If you want to help me help Cathy, please email or leave a comment. Thanks!

Me: Still freakin' weird!
If I'm correct...you got laid in my parent's room and Cathy prolly got laid in mine! Me? I think one year when we stayed over for Christmas Eve/Morning....I MIGHT have let my husband spoon with me a little in my younger brother's room, but THAT IS IT!! Ewwww...not with my mother in the next room!

Oh, I left out ANOTHER degree... In that same Lia Sophia post of mine there is a comment by my husband's sister's sister-in-law that found me through CJane. Talk about bizarre (not the SIL but the small world)!

b. I think Cathy conceived in your mom's salon :o)

Cool. Glad I could help.

My Azucar is Lorien, who is--thanks to me--really within six degrees of Kevin Bacon. Lorien knows me. I know and love my SIL, who used to work for Robert Redford. Robert Redford starred with Meryl Streep in Out of Africa. Meryl Streep starred with Kevin Bacon in The River Wild.

In any case, track that back the other way and I wouldn't have met any of you if Lorien and her Guy hadn't said, "Hey, you ought to check out this blog thing."

Still need to meet b. When's the next party girls?

This story sounds pretty complex and crazy, but so awesome! Yay that you were able to make that connection :)

I wish I could have gone...should we make it stranger? Cathy was my room mate in college (who I met while working for the Jolly Porter --who is married to Oh Judy--at B&N). She knew Melanee who was friends w/ Azucar. They all knew Waldo who is married to La Yen, who is BFF with ~J. Azucar and ~J are great friends of CJane who is sister to Jolly Porter. Oh Judy knows Lorien who introduced me to compulsive. CJane and Jolly Porter went to high school with Lyle, The executive (who is married to Design Mom), and Darlybird (who's sister is in my ward and started the fab clothing line called Pronk...).

The only person that I DON"T know is b. :-) I did not get pregnant in anyone's house (sadly for me)though.

There is no connection to Robert Redford..........

bek-I have three adopted kids, that makes us practically sisters.
Robby Redford used to own the ranch that is one of our closest neighbors-there, a connection!

OK, so I was at a friend's birthday dinner just a couple of weeks ago and the couple at our table were talking about the wife's sister who started this great business called Pronk (which I checked out online and it is oh so very fab). How weird is that?

And just yesterday I was at the blog of someone I don't know named Sarah and I saw a comment by someone with my exact but very unusual name. I commented on her blog and she e-mailed me and we discovered that we were both the firstborn--but not male--offspring of men named Dale and hence Dalene. We both have kids named Zackery and both have kids with the middle name of Dale.

I'm almost starting to be creeped out. But it's kind of cool, too.

Is this Cathay your great friend whom I met at your birthday party I didn't go to and then again at Lisa's house when Bek was here?

Yes, Cathy is the girl you met at my bday party then again at Norah's baby shower (and, incidently Cathy had HER baby and named her Nora). Small, freaky world.

So, I was going to blog about more degrees today...but my pillow fight post got too long.
LRH, I love that you are from Washington.....me too. I was born in Vancouver, WA--just across the Columbia from Portland. I spent my summers there as a kid, as my pot smoking dad still lives there. My sister-in-law, the one that has the same house number as you and lives across canyon road from you? She moved here from Redmond 8 or 9 years ago.
And Luckyzmom sitting outside my house in a car......Shan, how come you din't invite her in?

I live in Redmond and just got back from a weekend in Vancouver, WA. Cool! I have a 1-degree of separation from the Dalai Lama. Can you believe that? My boss went to the opening of the Dalai Lama Peace Conference Center in Vancouver, B.C. and shook his hand and spent time in meetings with him. So she came back to work after the weekend and shook my hand with the hand that shook his! Does that count?
